Jewish Digital Collections I-Z

What is a digital library?

A digital library provides actual objects such as texts, photos, recordings, videos and realia stored in electronic format as opposed to print format.

How is it different from a regular library catalog?

A regular library catalog lists the materials the library owns and where they can be found. In contrast, digital libraries provide the actual materials themselves, not just a reference to them.

Why do we need a database of Jewish digital library collections?

Various institutions have begun to digitize the Judaica materials they have in their collections. However, it is impossible to know what Judaica materials a particular institution owns or what portion of them they have decided to digitize. Therefore, a curated database of these holdings worldwide is useful.

Criteria for inclusion

This database includes digitized collections that can be searched using the parameters of the institution’s library software. Therefore, it does not include digitized items that have been used to create an online exhibit.

Search the collection or browse it by subject
